Role Description

As a Data Engineer (Technical Intern) at Siemens, you will be responsible for designing, building, and supporting scalable data solutions that enable analytics, reporting, and AI-driven insights.

You will work with structured and unstructured data, modern cloud infrastructures, and big data architectures to support business intelligence and advanced analytics use cases. This role demands a strong technical foundation, curiosity to explore emerging technologies, and the ability to collaborate across global teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts using multiple data sources
  • Apply AI/ML techniques and big data technologies to solve business problems
  • Design, implement, and deploy large-scale structured and unstructured databases
  • Work with cloud-based data platforms to ensure scalability and performance
  • Port and migrate data across databases and data sources to improve efficiency
  • Support analytics use cases by combining disparate datasets into meaningful insights
  • Collaborate with Data Architects in designing big data architectures
  • Ensure data quality, performance optimization, and system reliability
  • Have to Stay updated with trending technologies and industry best practices
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively with global stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent field
  • Professional certification or degree in Data Science / Data Engineering is an added advantage
  • have 0–2 years of hands-on experience in Databases, Data Engineering, or Data Analytics.
  • Experience working on at least two academic or professional data projects

Desired Technical Skills

Database & Querying

  • Strong knowledge of RDBMS and Object-Oriented databases
  • Excellent command over SQL and query optimization
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, T-SQL, or similar platforms
  • Ability to manage and process large-scale datasets (TB-level)

Data Warehousing

  • Experience with data warehousing solutions such as Teradata, Snowflake
  • Strong understanding of Data Modeling concepts
  • Knowledge of STAR Schema, Snowflake Schema, and dimensional modeling

ETL & BI Tools

  • Basic knowledge of ETL processes (Extract, Transform, Load)
  • Familiarity with tools such as Informatica, SAS DI Studio, or similar
  • Exposure to reporting/BI tools like Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, SAS VA

Cloud & Big Data

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Azure data services such as:
    • Azure Blob Storage
    • Azure Databricks
    • Azure Data Factory
  • Exposure to AWS cloud services is desirable
  • Strong interest in working on Big Data projects

Programming & NoSQL

  • Working knowledge of Python or R is an added advantage
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB, Cassandra, or HBase is desirable
